China boosts Pakistan's military with advanced submarines

China has strengthened its military ties with Pakistan by delivering a second Hangor-class submarine. This is part of a larger agreement worth $5 billion for a total of eight submarines. The new submarine, launched in Wuhan, is equipped with advanced weaponry and sensors. This delivery aims to enhance Pakistan’s naval power in the Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean. China's support for Pakistan includes previously supplying four modern frigates. These advancements help Pakistan challenge India’s military presence in the region. China has been Pakistan’s largest weapons supplier for many years. Recently, Pakistan has also sought to improve its defense relations with the United States. Just days ago, Pakistan extradited an Islamic State-Khorasan terrorist, Mohammad Sharifullah, to the U.S. He is linked to a deadly attack at Kabul airport in 2021. Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized cooperation with the U.S. to promote regional stability. However, experts suggest this partnership may face challenges, as the U.S. could be reluctant to deepen defense ties with Pakistan under the current administration.
