China increases African gas investments, oil imports decline
China's oil imports from Africa have significantly decreased, dropping from nearly a third to about 10% of total imports. The country is now sourcing more oil from the Middle East and Russia. In contrast, Chinese investments in African natural gas are increasing. Mozambique has become a key area for gas production, with over 5 trillion cubic meters of reserves discovered. China National Petroleum Corporation holds a 20% stake in the Rovuma LNG project in Mozambique. Despite facing financial delays and security issues, the project is expected to reach its final investment decision next year.
