China mandates AI skills training for university graduates
China's Ministry of Education has mandated universities to enhance employability by creating vocational training centers. They must collaborate with businesses to offer 1,000 micro majors and 1,000 vocational courses focused on artificial intelligence. This initiative comes as China faces a record 12.22 million university graduates in 2025. The ministry aims to address rising youth unemployment, which was 15.7% among 16 to 24-year-olds last December. Previously, the youth unemployment rate had reached a historic high in 2023, prompting a change in calculation methods. The new focus on AI training is part of efforts to improve job prospects for graduates.
