China strengthens international ties at Apec and G-20 meetings in Brazil and Peru
Chinese President Xi Jinping is actively strengthening China's international relations during the recent G-20 and Apec meetings in Brazil and Peru. This marks a shift from 2023, when Xi skipped the G-20 summit in New Delhi. Xi has held at least 15 high-level meetings with leaders from countries like Japan, Germany, and Singapore since arriving in Lima. This outreach comes as the U.S. prepares for a potentially tougher stance under a second Trump presidency. In discussions with U.S. President Joe Biden, Xi emphasized four key issues affecting U.S.-China relations, signaling China's readiness for increased tensions. Despite this, China is also seeking to improve ties with other major nations.
