China's largest coast guard ship returns to patrol Panatag Shoal
China's largest coast guard ship, known as "The Monster," is back at Panatag Shoal, conducting patrols. It was last seen about 157 kilometers from Zambales province, joining three other Chinese coast guard ships and several maritime militia vessels. The 165-meter ship, which weighs 12,000 tons, asserts China's claims in the area, located about 220 kilometers from Luzon Island. It has been patrolling since January 1, 2025, reinforcing China's presence in disputed waters. Previously, "The Monster" was spotted closer to Panatag and other locations in the West Philippine Sea. Its activities are part of China's strategy to normalize its maritime presence in these contested regions.
