Chinese vessel uses water cannon against Philippine fisheries ship in Scarborough Shoal

A Chinese vessel fired a water cannon at a Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) ship in Bajo de Masinloc, also known as Scarborough Shoal, according to the Philippine Navy. The incident occurred while the BFAR vessel was delivering supplies to local fishermen. The Philippine Navy confirmed the incident and stated they would defer to BFAR for an official response. The BFAR has not yet commented on the situation. Bajo de Masinloc is within the Philippines' exclusive economic zone, but China claims most of the South China Sea. An international tribunal ruled in 2016 that China's claims have no legal basis, a decision China does not recognize.
