Chowder recalled for botulism risk in multiple states

oregonlive.com

A seafood company from Washington is recalling two types of chowder due to a botulism risk. SeaBear Co. has identified a packaging issue that may have left some pouches unsealed. The affected chowders are Alehouse Clam Chowder and Smoked Salmon Chowder, sold in 12-ounce pouches. These pouches were distributed to stores in Alaska, California, Colorado, Oregon, and Washington. They were also available online on SeaBear's website and through Amazon. The chowder was sold between October 1, 2024, and March 14, 2025, with "enjoy by" dates ranging from June 2028 to January 2029. The company found that a mechanical failure caused the sealing problem, which increases the risk of food contamination. The primary concern is Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium that can cause botulism, a potentially life-threatening illness. Symptoms can include weakness, dizziness, and difficulty breathing. So far, there have been no reported illnesses linked to these products. Customers who have purchased the affected chowder are advised not to eat it. They can contact SeaBear for refunds at 800-645-3474 or smokehouse@seabear.com.
