Christie warns Trump against targeting Supreme Court justices
Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has advised President Donald Trump to be cautious about his comments regarding judges. Christie warned that Trump's calls to impeach judges could upset Chief Justice John Roberts and hurt Trump's future relationships with the Supreme Court. In an interview on ABC's "This Week," Christie expressed concern that Trump's inflammatory remarks could provoke a backlash from the court. He pointed out that if Trump keeps insisting on impeaching judges he disagrees with, it may jeopardize his chances of getting favorable rulings from the Supreme Court. Trump recently named Judge James Boasberg in a Truth Social post, calling for his impeachment after Boasberg ruled against one of Trump's deportation policies. Shortly after, Chief Justice Roberts issued a rare statement saying impeachment is not appropriate for disagreements with judicial decisions. In response to Roberts’ comments, Trump called on the Chief Justice to take action against judges handling recent administration cases. He expressed urgency in addressing what he described as a "toxic" situation. Christie believes that despite their differences, Roberts may agree with Trump on many issues regarding executive power. However, Christie cautioned that antagonizing the Chief Justice could lead to negative outcomes for Trump's future cases in the Supreme Court. Overall, Christie suggested that it would be wise for Trump to refrain from criticizing judges and to avoid making Roberts feel pressured. In the past, the Supreme Court has ruled against Trump's administration several times, but there have been points where Trump and his supporters viewed Roberts more positively.
