Cincinnati company supplies courts for half NCAA tournament teams
A Cincinnati company is getting attention during this year's March Madness. Robbins Sports Surfaces has supplied basketball courts for 31 of the 68 teams in the NCAA tournaments. This means nearly half of the teams are using courts made by them. The company has been producing portable basketball courts since the early 1950s. They have grown and now serve teams across the country. Some notable teams they work with include Duke, Kentucky, and Michigan State. According to Andy Pierce, the Portable Project Manager, it’s exciting to see so many teams using their product. The basketball courts are made of four-by-eight-foot wood panels that fit together like a puzzle. Some courts are permanent, while others can be easily moved. The courts include special features to reduce injury risks for players. These include plastic cups and rubber pads that help soften the impact on their legs. Robbins Sports Surfaces also supplies courts for other major events. They provide the courts for the Big East Tournament and the Men's Division II and III championships. While they do not currently supply courts for the Men's Division I tournament, Pierce hopes to change that in the future. In addition to college basketball, the company is set to supply all NBA portable courts. This is a big step for them, as they recently provided floors for the NBA Cup Tournament. As March Madness unfolds, Pierce is eager to see which teams will succeed. He is hopeful that one of the teams using their courts will emerge as the national champion.
