Cincinnati is helping small businesses by giving grants. Thirteen businesses will each receive $20,000 from the city's Commercial Tenant Improvement Program (CTIP). This program aims to support growth and ease challenges, especially those related to high construction costs. Gerald Fortson, a senior officer in the city's community development department, emphasized the goal of creating a vibrant community and strengthening the local economy. The grants are for businesses that have been operating for at least one year or wish to move to the city. This is the second round of CTIP grants. Last year, the city awarded funds to 11 local businesses. One recipient is Selfie Cincy, a popular spot downtown. CEO Amari Samya plans to use the grant to move to a larger location. This new space will double their current size and include more interactive experiences for customers. Another business benefiting from the grant is Lusheous Collection, owned by Renika Smiley. She will transform an old barber shop in College Hill into a boutique for plus-size clothing. Smiley wants to create a space that caters specifically to plus-sized women. The new shop will also include suites for other beauty businesses. Both Samya and Smiley expressed gratitude for the support. Smiley called the grant a "huge blessing" that boosts her confidence. Samya noted the importance of city support for small businesses to thrive and grow.
