A major car brand, Citroën, is set to launch a new budget electric vehicle (EV) next month. The new van, called the ë-C3, will be priced at £15,000. Greg Taylor, the boss of Citroën UK, believes it offers something unique in the current market. The ë-C3 van is based on a super mini car and features a larger battery with 200 miles of range. It can charge quickly, at speeds of up to 100kW. Taylor noted that there is a niche market for this type of vehicle and is looking to attract buyers who may have previously chosen cars like the Ford Fiesta or Vauxhall Corsavan. The van is designed for businesses that need smaller vehicles for deliveries and short trips. It has a load space of 1.3 square meters, making it practical for light loads. The ë-C3 retains features from the car version but removes rear seats and adds a mesh barrier for more cargo space. Citroën currently has five EV models priced under £30,000 and aims to offer affordable electric options. Taylor emphasized that this new product launch fits into the brand's growth strategy rather than being a reaction to market changes. Starting April 1, new Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) rules will affect electric vehicle owners. This means they will have to pay road tax for the first time. Electric cars costing above £40,000 will incur higher taxes, affecting many buyers soon.
