Citroen to revitalize 2CV as electric vehicle

A major car maker plans to revive a classic model as an electric vehicle (EV) nearly 50 years after it appeared in a James Bond film. The updated version of this iconic car is expected to be launched in the next two years. Thierry Koskas, Citroen’s global chief executive, announced that some of the brand's retro models will receive modern upgrades. He emphasized the importance of Citroen's heritage, mentioning popular models like the DS and the 2CV. When asked specifically about the 2CV, he hinted that its return is possible. The Citroen 2CV was notably featured in the 1977 Bond film "For Your Eyes Only." In a memorable scene, James Bond escapes in a 2CV, showcasing its capability on rough terrain. Although only a few of the original models survived filming, their legacy remains strong. Koskas noted that while there will be a revival of some classic models, it will not be a routine practice for the entire Citroen lineup. If the 2CV returns, it is anticipated to be priced affordably, likely under £20,000. Previous leaders at Citroen had different views on reviving classic models. However, recent updates suggest that designs for a new version of the 2CV are already underway. The original model, created before World War II, became wildly popular for its practicality and charm, selling nine million units between 1948 and 1990.
