Citroen will revive the 2CV as an electric vehicle
Citroen has announced plans to revive the classic 2CV as an electric vehicle (EV). This move follows Renault's successful relaunch of the R5 model. Citroen's CEO, Thierry Koskas, emphasized the company's goal of being "daring and shocking" in its future designs. He highlighted the 2CV as one of Citroen's most recognizable cars. The design work for the modern 2CV has already started. However, Koskas did not provide a specific release date. He mentioned that Citroen aims to create more iconic models to surprise customers. Earlier this year, the company also hinted at introducing a new concept car, although it may not directly resemble the classic 2CV. Several European car manufacturers, including Citroen and Renault, are seeking inspiration from their past. They are facing competition from cheaper, more advanced Chinese EVs, raising concerns about retaining customers. Renault's design chief stated that consumers still value good design and a brand's heritage. The revival of these classic models is not just about nostalgia. Cars like the Renault 5 and 2CV were once practical, affordable options during difficult times. With traditional combustion engines being phased out, many customers are looking for similarly budget-friendly and versatile EV alternatives.
