Civil works for Bicol River Basin project may begin by 2026, says DPWH
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced that civil works for the Bicol River Basin Development Program (BRBDP) may begin by 2026. This project was halted in 1986 and is now being revisited by the Marcos administration. DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan stated that preparations for the project are underway, with detailed engineering designs expected by early next year. The project aims to improve flood control and includes farm-to-market roads in the Bicol Region. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. emphasized the need for long-term solutions following severe flooding in the area. He noted that rainfall during the recent storm was significantly higher than in past events, highlighting ongoing challenges for the region.
