CKD increases complications after prostate cancer surgery
A recent study found that patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) who undergo radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer face higher rates of adverse in-hospital outcomes. This includes increased risks of dialysis for acute kidney failure and other complications. The research analyzed data from over 191,000 patients treated between 2005 and 2019. It revealed that the rate of CKD among these patients rose significantly, from 0.3% in 2005 to 5.6% in 2019. The study highlights the need for updated research on CKD's impact on surgical outcomes, as previous studies may not reflect current management practices for patients with this condition.
