Class 3 Hindi textbook includes chapter on Varanasi

Students in Class 3 at government-run schools in Uttar Pradesh will study a new chapter in their Hindi textbook called "Varanasi Ki Yatra" or "Journey to Varanasi." This chapter will focus on the historical and cultural aspects of Varanasi. It will be part of the updated Hindi textbook, Veena-1, which will be used in the academic year 2025-26. The decision to add this chapter is part of an effort to adapt NCERT books to meet the needs of Uttar Pradesh's education system. This customization has been done with NCERT's permission. The experts from the State Institute of Education (SIE) in Prayagraj have worked on these changes, adding four new chapters. The first phase started last year with classes 1 and 2. The new chapter replaces a story called "Bolaane Wali Mand" from the Panchatantra collection. UP education officials believe that "Bolaane Wali Mand" does not teach themes of patriotism. In contrast, "Varanasi Ki Yatra" will help students learn about India's cultural heritage, freedom, and unity. Varanasi is known as one of the oldest cities in India and is rich in history and tradition. This chapter will cover various important aspects of Varanasi. Students will learn about the famous Kashi Vishwanath temple, major marketplaces, and the renowned Banaras Hindu University. They will also explore Buddhist sites, local foods, and even a factory that makes modern railway engines. The updated Hindi textbook will also include other changes. For instance, the story "Ghumakkar Tarak" will replace "Birbal’s Khichdi," focusing on cooperation and friendship. Additionally, the poem "Bharat Hai Mera Ghar" will take the place of "Hum Anek Lekin Ek," introducing children to India's diverse heritage through the names of various cities. These updates aim to enhance students' knowledge and understanding of both local and national heritage. They will help broaden students' knowledge by introducing them to new topics and enriching their education.
