Classic Xbox game "Painkiller" returns with reboot
A classic Xbox game is making a comeback this year, 21 years after it first launched. The game was originally released in 2004 as a PC exclusive and came to Xbox in 2006. It is known for being a console exclusive of the original Xbox. The game, titled "Painkiller," was created by developer People Can Fly. It initially competed with other major titles in a year known for great games, including "GTA San Andreas," "Halo 2," and "World of Warcraft." Despite its quality, "Painkiller" did not receive as much attention as other games that year. This fall, a reboot of "Painkiller" will be released on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. However, it will not be made by the original developers. Instead, Anshar Studios is taking on the project. The new version will follow a storyline where players are trapped in Purgatory and must stop a fallen angel named Azazel from unleashing demons on Earth. The gameplay will involve battling various enemies and challenging creatures known as the Nephilim. Pricing details and availability on subscription services for the reboot have not yet been announced.
