CLP Power Hong Kong will start charging drivers to use its electric vehicle (EV) charging stations later this year. This ends 16 years of free service. The company says this change is in line with the development of the market. Details about the new fees will be shared through notices at the relevant parking areas. CLP Power mentioned that most charging stations are already charging fees as the market grows. The company aims to support the government in expanding the EV charging network in Hong Kong. Currently, there are about 112,000 EVs in the city, which make up around 12.4% of all vehicles. There are roughly 10,400 public EV chargers available according to the Environmental Protection Department. Additionally, officials announced in 2023 that drivers would have to pay for charging in government car parks by the end of 2025.
