Cochin Shipyard lays keel for hybrid-electric vessel Pelagic Walu
Cochin Shipyard has completed the keel-laying for the Pelagic Walu, a hybrid-electric commissioning service operation vessel, on December 13. This vessel is the first of two being built for Pelagic Wind Services Limited, based in Cyprus. The Pelagic Walu features a 2,800 kWh Lithium-ion battery for improved efficiency and lower emissions. It can also use methanol as fuel, supporting the renewable energy sector. Measuring 93 meters long and 19.5 meters wide, the vessel is designed for safety and reduced fuel consumption. It can accommodate 120 personnel, highlighting Cochin Shipyard's focus on innovation and sustainability in vessel construction.
