Coco Gauff returns to Miami Open after birthday
Coco Gauff is heading back to her home tournament, the Miami Open, after her 21st birthday. She’s recently had a rough time on the court, losing a few matches in a row. Gauff mentioned that people often worry about her personally when she does not perform well. “I’m like, ‘I just lost a couple of matches! I’m chillin’,” she said. Gauff is seeded No. 3 at the Miami Open and has a first-round bye. She will next face either Petra Kvitova or Sofia Kenin in the second round. Gauff has been making changes to her game, which has been challenging. These changes began after last year's U.S. Open and include adjustments to her serve and forehand. Gauff’s backhand is strong, but her forehand is often targeted by opponents. In her last match, she lost in three sets to Belinda Bencic at Indian Wells. Bencic noted that Gauff seemed more tense during crucial moments of the match. The Miami Open is significant for Gauff, who considers it her "home tournament." Although she hasn’t advanced past the fourth round there, she is determined to improve. Gauff acknowledges the pressure that comes with being a top player and expects a lot from herself.
