Cognite launches AI center in Bengaluru, India
Cognite, an industrial software firm backed by Saudi Aramco, has opened an AI services center in Bengaluru, India. The company is looking for contracts with major Indian companies. They have already signed agreements with a large cement company and a significant automotive firm, although they did not share specific names. Cognite is making a substantial investment in India and plans to continue increasing its presence there. The firm creates software that helps improve the efficiency and safety of industrial operations, such as oil and gas platforms. Aker ASA, an investment company led by Norwegian billionaire Kjell Inge Roekke, controls Cognite. Cognite's CEO, Girish Rishi, explained that the decision to expand into India is linked to global interest in alternatives to China for manufacturing. Many companies, including Apple and Tesla, are also expanding in India, following government efforts to attract foreign businesses. The rise of AI is transforming how businesses operate. Many manufacturing firms are using AI to streamline processes, improve product quality, and optimize supply chains. Cognite recently relocated its headquarters to the U.S. and serves clients including AkerBP and Japanese refiner Cosmo Energy. In February 2022, Saudi Aramco acquired a 7.4% stake in Cognite through its subsidiary.
