Cognitive skills can improve into your forties
A recent study published in Science Advances shows that cognitive skills, such as literacy and numeracy, can continue to improve into a person's forties, contrary to previous beliefs that they decline in the thirties. The research, conducted over 3.5 years with German adults, found that while numeracy skills may slightly decline after age 40, literacy skills tend to remain stable. Individuals who engage in reading and math activities experience little to no decline in cognitive abilities even into their sixties. The study emphasizes that cognitive decline is not solely due to aging but can be influenced by lifestyle choices. Staying mentally active through reading, writing, and problem-solving can help maintain cognitive skills as people age.
