Coimbatore celebrates Earth Hour 2025 for water conservation

Coimbatore participated in Earth Hour 2025 on Saturday, which also coincided with World Water Day. The World Wide Fund for Nature India (WWF - India) used this occasion to raise awareness about the importance of water conservation. From 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., many people and organizations turned off non-essential lights as part of the global campaign. This year's theme was #BeWaterWise. Well-known personalities, including Dia Mirza and Viswanathan Anand, supported the initiative. In Coimbatore, events took place at several locations, including Kikani Vidya Mandir and SSVM School in Mettupalayam. A cleanup drive was also held in Pollachi. Meanwhile, the Earth Hour Festival 2025 in Delhi featured music, art, and discussions focused on conservation. Performers such as Shantanu Moitra and Taba Chake entertained the audience. Experts discussed the importance of water in history and architecture. A special art installation related to water by Gopal Namjoshi was also revealed. Ravi Singh, the CEO of WWF-India, stated that this year's Earth Hour, linked to World Water Day, aimed to encourage collective efforts for sustainable water use.
