Coimbatore Corporation is planning to build 32 new bus shelters along Avinashi Road to improve facilities for commuters. This move comes as the State Highways Department works on a 10-kilometer flyover from Uppilipalayam to Goldwins, which is expected to cost ₹1,621 crore. The flyover project includes eight ramps and is scheduled to be completed by June. To prepare for the increased traffic and need for public transport, the Coimbatore Corporation has identified 15 locations for bus shelters from Uppilipalayam to Goldwins. These spots include popular areas like Anna Silai, Kuppusamy Naidu Hospital, and PSG Arts and Science College. The Corporation also plans to install shelters at 17 locations on the return route from Goldwins to Uppilipalayam. Some of these locations include KMCH Hospital, Fun Mall, and Varadharaja Mills. M. Sivaguru Prabakaran, the Corporation Commissioner, mentioned he visited the proposed sites with Highways Department officials. Due to a funding shortage for the flyover, the Corporation has decided to implement the bus shelters using an advertisement-based model.
