Coimbatore installs rainwater structures in local schools
The Coimbatore Corporation has started installing rainwater harvesting systems in schools. The first Eco Block structure has been set up at the Corporation Middle School in Edayarpalayam. This project costs ₹2.2 crore. To celebrate World Water Day, the Corporation showed its rainwater harvesting efforts to District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar on Saturday. An official from the Corporation said the Eco Block system is better than traditional methods because it stops silt buildup. The Eco Block system uses eco-friendly materials and has a special geotextile fabric. This fabric lets water flow through but keeps silt out, which helps recharge groundwater more effectively. As part of the World Water Day initiative, the Corporation plans to install similar systems in other schools that currently do not have rainwater harvesting. They will conduct a survey to find suitable schools for this project.
