Coimbatore operation intercepts 62 kg ganja smuggling attempt

On Monday, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Narcotics Intelligence Bureau (NIB) stopped a group trying to smuggle 62 kg of ganja in Coimbatore. The suspects included five women and one man, all from Odisha. They were caught during a special operation called "Operation Narcos." The six individuals arrived at Coimbatore railway station on the Howrah-Ernakulam Antyodaya Express. RPF personnel noticed them carrying suspicious polythene bags around 8:30 a.m. When the bags were checked, they found dry cannabis valued at approximately ₹31 lakh. The arrested suspects are Japat Digal, 25; Kandi Digal, 46; Sulata Nayak, 37; Rupina Nayak, 44; Jyotsarani Digal, 44; and Gelei Nayak, 32. A case has been filed against them under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. During questioning, the suspects revealed their plan to smuggle the ganja to Kerala. They had exited the train after noticing the law enforcement operation but were monitored and apprehended shortly after.
