Coimbatore roads to be widened for better traffic flow

The government is considering widening roads in Coimbatore. Minister K.N. Nehru announced this during a session in the Assembly. The Municipal Administration Department is working with the Highways Department on this project. The move comes after concerns were raised about a new bus terminus planned for Vellalore. S.P. Velumani from the AIADMK expressed worries about the site being used as a dumping yard. Nehru explained that garbage from the city was piling up there. He emphasized that moving the dump site would be necessary for the bus terminus to proceed safely. Nehru also noted that the roads leading into Coimbatore, especially from Tiruchi, are too narrow. He mentioned that discussions have taken place with the Highways Minister to address this issue. Additionally, Velumani highlighted problems with coconut farming in the area due to pests affecting the trees. He claimed that about 70% of them have been impacted. He urged the government to take stronger action to support farmers. Regarding complaints about the Amma Unavagams, which provide affordable meals, Nehru reminded the Assembly that ₹40 crore was recently allocated for their maintenance.
