Collector reviews development projects in Thisaiyanvilai taluk
Collector R. Sukumar visited Thisaiyanvilai taluk on Wednesday and Thursday to review development projects. This trip was part of the ‘Ungalai Thedi Ungal Ooril’ program. He inspected the renovation of the Bishop Robert Caldwell memorial in Idaiyankudi, which costs ₹1.03 crore. Sukumar emphasized the importance of preserving the heritage of the site where Caldwell, a British missionary, worked on the Dravidian languages. The Collector also examined construction work on a groyne and fish landing center in Kooduthaazhai village. This project has a budget of ₹15 crore and aims to protect the village from sea erosion. He checked the site for a new Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI) at Kuttam and requested officials to plan roads linking the ITI to the village. Sukumar spoke to farmers in Mannaarpuram, Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, and Vijayanarayanam. These farmers are getting support for irrigation projects from the Department of Horticulture. He asked them about any marketing challenges they face. The district aims to increase milk procurement from local dairy farmers from 32,000 to 70,000 liters. The Collector encouraged milk producers to form cooperative societies to supply milk to Aavin, could help boost their income. During his visit to Suviseshapuram village, Sukumar checked how much milk was being purchased and visited a nearby veterinary dispensary. He also reviewed the food quality at a middle school. District officials accompanied him during the visits.
