Colorado Springs fire department extinguishes encampment fire
The Colorado Springs Fire Department responded to a fire at a homeless encampment on Friday afternoon. The location was near Interstate 25 and Bijou Street. Firefighters quickly arrived on the scene. They reported that a 20ft by 20ft area was on fire. Smoke from the blaze was visible to drivers on the interstate. By the time the fire was controlled, it had spread to about half an acre. Fire crews worked until just before 5 p.m. to fully extinguish the flames. They stayed afterward to check for any remaining hot spots. Authorities warned the public that smoke might still be visible from I-25. On Saturday, red-flag warnings are expected in parts of El Paso County. These warnings are due to low humidity and strong winds, which may increase fire danger.
