Colorado voters to decide on constitutional amendment for abortion access
Colorado voters will soon decide on Amendment 79, which aims to enshrine abortion access in the state constitution. If approved by at least 55% of voters, it would protect abortion rights and repeal a 1984 ban on state funding for abortion services. Currently, abortion is legal in Colorado, but the amendment would ensure it remains protected from future legislative changes. It would also allow Medicaid recipients and public employees to have abortion procedures covered by government health insurance. Supporters, including a coalition of reproductive rights groups, have raised nearly $6.4 million for the campaign. Opponents, led by over 50 anti-abortion organizations, argue against taxpayer funding for abortions, claiming it could increase public spending. Voting ends at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
