Colorado woman faces $13K vet bill for dog surgery
A woman from Broomfield, Colorado, faced a huge vet bill after her rescue dog ate five pairs of underwear. Sarah Oakley, 34, adopted Reta, a terrier mix, in January 2025. In March, she discovered her dog lying on a pile of dirty clothes with the underwear missing. At first, Sarah hoped Reta would throw it up, but after a day, the dog was still sick. Concerned for Reta's health, Sarah took her to the vet. The vet found that Reta needed surgery to remove the underwear from her intestines. The procedure cost Sarah about $13,000. Sarah, a marketing consultant, said she thought about reaching out to Kim Kardashian, founder of the underwear brand Skims, for help. She joked that she wishes there were edible underwear, as she can no longer afford to buy regular ones. Reta has eaten underwear before but usually managed to throw them up. After surgery, Sarah reported that Reta is now resting at home and recovering well. To help cover the costs, Sarah started a GoFundMe campaign and is still hoping for a response from Kardashian.
