Columbia aims for deeper NCAA Tournament run
Columbia women's basketball is focused on the NCAA Tournament as they prepare for their game against Washington. Coach Megan Griffith has created a “potential board” to help the team track their progress this season. The board features stickers to mark growth, emphasizing teamwork and resilience rather than just wins and losses. Columbia believes it is at about 85% of its full potential. Griffith pointed out that the remaining 15% is what they want to reach, especially now during the tournament. At the start of the season, Columbia aimed to be the first Ivy League team to reach the Sweet 16. Columbia has an at-large bid for the tournament and will face Washington in the First Four. The team feels confident and calm as they prepare. Griffith noted that sleeping in their own beds helped the players reset. Washington is known for a strong offense and is effective at shooting 3-pointers. Columbia has been studying their opponent closely to make necessary adjustments. Senior Kitty Henderson feels that understanding these tendencies will help them control the game. Last year, Columbia did not advance past the First Four. This time, they are eager to make a statement. Henderson described the team as a cohesive unit, ready to face any challenge together. She hopes fans will see the impact of their winning culture on the court.
