Columbia protests lead to arrests of Palestinian students
Immigration officials have arrested Leqaa Kordia, a Palestinian student, for overstaying her visa. This follows the arrest of Mahmoud Khalil, another Palestinian activist, who is facing deportation after leading protests at Columbia University. Kordia's visa was revoked in January 2022 due to lack of attendance. Ranjani Srinivasan, an Indian doctoral student, also had his visa revoked for advocating violence and chose to self-deport earlier this month. Khalil's treatment during his arrest has raised concerns. He was moved from New York to Louisiana without proper legal communication. His lawyers claim he felt kidnapped and are seeking his release in court.
