Columbia student claims federal agents kidnapped him
Mahmoud Khalil, a Columbia University student, claims he felt kidnapped during his detention by federal agents. His lawyers filed a lawsuit after he was transported from New York to Louisiana without proper identification and left in poor conditions. Khalil's lawyers added President Trump and Secretary of State Rubio as defendants in the lawsuit. They argue he was detained under a law allowing deportation for activities deemed harmful to U.S. foreign policy. The Justice Department seeks to dismiss the lawsuit or move it to a different jurisdiction. Khalil, a U.S. permanent resident with no criminal history, was arrested while returning home with his wife. He expressed concern about missing the birth of their first child and his ability to continue advocating for Palestinian rights.
