Columbia student leader Khalil arrested, residency revoked
Mahmoud Khalil, a Palestinian graduate student and leader of pro-Palestinian protests at Columbia University, was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents at his university residence. His permanent residency status is also being revoked. Khalil's lawyer stated that ICE acted on orders from the State Department to revoke his student visa and green card. He has been transferred to an immigration detention facility in New Jersey, with no clear charges provided to his family. This arrest follows President Trump's pledge to deport international students involved in protests against Israel. Khalil's case is seen as part of a broader crackdown on pro-Palestinian activism at U.S. universities.
