Columbia student Ranjani Srinivasan flees U.S. after visa revocation
Ranjani Srinivasan, a Columbia University student from India, fled the U.S. after her student visa was revoked. She left behind her cat and belongings, booking a last-minute flight to Canada amid fears of federal immigration agents searching for her. Srinivasan learned of her visa cancellation on March 5 and sought help from her university. By March 7, she was already planning her escape as immigration agents arrived at her apartment, prompting her to leave quickly. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security stated that Srinivasan voluntarily self-deported. The Secretary of Homeland Security emphasized that advocating for violence can lead to visa revocation.
