Columbia student self-deports after visa revocation
Ranjani Srinivasan, a 27-year-old doctoral student at Columbia University, self-deported after the U.S. revoked her visa for allegedly supporting violence and terrorism linked to Hamas. The Department of Homeland Security confirmed her visa was revoked on March 5. Srinivasan used the new CBP Home app to voluntarily leave the U.S. on March 11. This app allows individuals to self-deport while maintaining the option to return legally in the future. In related news, another student, Leqaa Kordia, was arrested for overstaying her visa after participating in pro-Hamas protests. The Trump administration also announced the cancellation of federal funding to Columbia University due to concerns over anti-Semitic harassment on campus.
