Columbia University expels students for building takeover
Columbia University has expelled or suspended some students involved in a building takeover during pro-Palestinian protests last spring. The university's judicial board issued sanctions against dozens of students for their actions in Hamilton Hall. The university did not specify the number of students affected or the details of the sanctions. Some students who graduated had their diplomas temporarily revoked. The protests escalated on April 30, 2024, leading to a police intervention. While the Manhattan district attorney's office dropped charges against many arrested, the students still faced disciplinary actions from the university.
