Columbia University grad Mahmoud Khalil detained by ICE

Mahmoud Khalil, a Palestinian former student at Columbia University, was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Saturday. He is known for leading protests and is associated with the group Columbia United Apartheid Divest (CUAD). Khalil, a permanent U.S. resident, has been involved in campus protests that have caused disruptions and fear among students. He earned his graduate degree from Columbia in December and previously worked with a UN agency supporting Palestinian refugees. At the time of his arrest, Khalil's pregnant wife was in their apartment. His lawyer stated that he was previously suspended from Columbia for protests, but the suspension was quickly reversed.
