Commission calls for Gurmukhi promotion and Sikh heritage preservation
Iqbal Singh Lalpura, the chairman of the National Commission for Minorities, has written to state governments asking them to promote the Gurmukhi language. Gurmukhi is the written form of the Punjabi language and is significant to the Sikh community. In his letter, Lalpura emphasized the importance of preserving the history and cultural heritage of Sikhs. He suggested that each state should create a Sikh Development Board. This board would help address the needs and uplift the Sikh community. Lalpura also urged governments to hire more Gurmukhi teachers. He wants to see better representation of Sikhs in important institutions. He highlighted the need to support traditional Sikh businesses while also helping them modernize for economic growth and job creation. Additionally, Lalpura called for the inclusion of Sikh culture and contributions in state policies. He believes this will help strengthen the community's presence and promote its values.
