Committee highlights low women representation in government

A committee in Pakistan, led by Dr. Nafisa Shah, has reported low representation of women in the federal government. Women make up only 8.08% of employees in the federal secretariat and less than 6% in various other government bodies. The committee found that only 41 out of 357 federal entities have met the target of 33% female representation. It has recommended completing board constitutions with this target within three months and improving facilities for women in public offices. Positive developments include the establishment of day care centers and separate facilities for women in 42 ministries. The committee also suggested enhancing the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics for better gender data collection.
