Commonwealth Games cut to 10 sports for 2026 in Glasgow
The 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow will feature only 10 sports, cutting high-profile events like hockey, rugby sevens, and cricket. This change comes after Victoria withdrew from hosting, reducing the program from 22 sports to a streamlined version. Lawn bowls will remain in the lineup, alongside athletics, swimming, 3x3 basketball, artistic gymnastics, boxing, judo, netball, track cycling, and weightlifting. The event will take place in four inner-city venues, reusing facilities from the 2014 Games. Participants will stay in existing accommodations instead of a traditional athlete village. The Games are scheduled for July 23 to August 2, 2026, and will continue to include para-events.
