Community supports Hostetler family after tragic accident
Reed Hostetler, 31, died in a tragic accident on March 5 when the tractor he was operating overturned into a manure pit on his family’s dairy farm. Following his funeral, his family has been amazed by the community's support. His wife, Abby Hostetler, expressed gratitude for the help, saying, “We are just blown away by the way people rallied around us.” Community members have helped in many ways. They cleaned the barn, cleared the driveway, and delivered meals. A line of tractors was parked as a tribute to Reed, which touched the family deeply. Others have also stepped in to care for the farm and the animals. A friend of the Hostetlers created a GoFundMe campaign to help the family with expenses. Abby mentioned that there was no initial fundraising goal, but the response has been overwhelming. Donations have exceeded her expectations and will support her and their three children: Baer, Claire, and Axe. Reed's funeral was held in the barn where he grew up and worked. Abby noted the need for extensive preparations, as it is a working dairy farm. Many community members contributed, arranging portable restrooms and managing traffic, showcasing a united effort. The Hostetler family is not only grateful but is also thinking about farm safety. Abby hopes others in the agricultural community will take time to evaluate their safety practices. She emphasizes the importance of learning from this tragedy to prevent future accidents. As the family copes with their loss, they find strength in the kindness they've received. Abby said that while saying thank you doesn't feel like enough, it is all they can offer at this moment.
