Commuters frustrated by limited parking at Guindy station

The modernization of Guindy railway station is progressing under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. However, many commuters are unhappy due to the lack of parking space on the east side of the station. Guindy railway station is an important transport hub connecting buses and metro services. Southern Railway is renovating the station and plans to add multi-level parking and lifts. This work is expected to finish by the end of this year. Currently, two-wheeler parking is available on the west side, but commuters using the east side struggle to find parking. M. Sai Prasanth, a regular commuter, mentioned how the station allows easy changes between transportation modes. Commuters arriving from the east must park along Race Course Road, where they worry about theft or towing. Traffic police diverted MTC buses from GST Road to Race Course Road after metro construction. Commuters on this side point out the lack of parking facilities and note that parking used to exist on the east side until it was closed. Additionally, commuters are frustrated with encroachments by vendors and shops that occupy land meant for parking. Removing these could create more parking spaces for travelers at the station.
