Congo receives 100,000 mpox vaccine doses amid shortages

Congo received its first 100,000 doses of the MVA-BN mpox vaccine on September 5, 2024, following a WHO declaration of a global emergency due to outbreaks in 12 African countries. The European Union donated the vaccines, with UNICEF overseeing the campaign. An additional 100,000 doses are expected soon, but only 380,000 doses have been promised, far short of the 3 million needed.
