Congress appoints Rajesh Kumar as Bihar state chief
The Congress party has made a significant change in its Bihar leadership ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. Rajesh Kumar, a Dalit leader and current MLA, has been appointed as the new president of the Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee. He replaces Akhilesh Prasad Singh, a former Union minister and Rajya Sabha MP. This appointment is part of Congress's strategy to strengthen its presence in Bihar. Last month, the party also brought in Krishna Allavaru as the new AICC in-charge of Bihar. He is seen as a young and dynamic leader, signaling a shift toward a more aggressive approach. Allavaru emphasized the party's wish to be seen as the main contender, not just an ally of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). He stated that Congress aims to connect with the people of Bihar and improve its election results. The decision to appoint a Dalit leader reflects Congress's intention to reach out to marginalized communities. There are growing speculations about a potential split between Congress and RJD. Some leaders, including Union Minister Chirag Paswan, believe that Congress may decide to run alone in the elections if the RJD tries to take too much power. Paswan expects a competition between the two parties for dominance in Bihar’s political landscape.
