Congress demands resignation over corruption in Puducherry
The Congress party in Puducherry is calling for the resignation of Public Works Minister K. Lakshminarayan. This follows the arrest of senior officers from the Public Works Department (PWD) by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Former Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy claims this incident reflects poorly on the AINRC-BJP government. Narayanasamy spoke to journalists, stating that the Congress has consistently raised concerns about corruption within the government. He highlighted issues in several departments, including PWD, Excise, and Smart City projects. He believes that the Chief Minister is aware of all the actions taken by these officers. In addition, the Communist Party of India (CPI), an ally of Congress, has expressed its worries over the increasing corruption claims against government officials. A. M Saleem, the CPI Puducherry secretary, mentioned that the recent arrests of PWD officials show that corruption is a serious issue. He pointed out that previous arrests of senior officials in a different scam further highlight this problem. Both parties are urging for an impartial investigation by the CBI into these allegations to uncover the truth behind the accusations of corruption.
