Connecticut man escapes after 20 years of captivity
A mother in Connecticut is grateful to have found her son after a long search. This follows an incident where the 32-year-old man set his home on fire to escape. He claims he was held captive by his stepmother for over 20 years. In an interview with NBC Connecticut, the mother, who chose to remain anonymous, expressed pride in her son’s bravery. She tried to be part of his life after losing custody when he was a child. She had searched for him with his half-sister but often felt blocked by his father and stepmother. Authorities say that the stepmother, Kimberly Sullivan, kept the man captive since he was about 11 years old. He was found in very poor condition, weighing only 68 pounds when rescued. Investigations revealed he endured serious neglect and abuse, receiving minimal food and no medical care during his captivity. Sullivan has been charged with multiple crimes, including kidnapping and cruelty. Her bond is set at $300,000, and she is due in court on March 26. Her lawyer claims she is innocent and denies the allegations against her. The victim's half-sister also shared her feelings, stating she always loved her brother and searched for him for over a decade. She had hoped to find him when he turned 18 but struggled to locate any records or information.
