Connecticut woman accused of decades-long child abuse
Dave Pelzer, the author of "A Child Called 'It'," spoke out about a severe child abuse case in Connecticut. He described the allegations against Kimberly Sullivan as "extremely severe," stating that her actions amount to attempted murder. Sullivan, 56, was arrested on March 12 after her 32-year-old stepson set fire to their home to escape his abusive conditions. He had been kept in a small windowless closet for 20 years and weighed only 68 pounds. Pelzer, who survived his own abusive childhood, expressed concern for the victim's mental health. Authorities found the man, who has not been named, in poor condition. He said he was confined in the closet most of the day and received very little food or care. He was made to use water bottles for bathing and to dispose of waste. Sullivan faces serious charges, including first-degree assault and second-degree kidnapping. She was released on a $300,000 bail. Pelzer noted that victims of abuse often feel trapped and struggle to escape, as they have been conditioned to accept the abuse. The Connecticut Department of Children and Families acknowledged the situation and expressed sorrow for the victim. They are concerned about his well-being and hope that he can find support as he begins his recovery.
