The State Highways Department has started building a flyover on Cauvery Road near Tiruchi Town Railway Station. This 750-meter-long overbridge aims to ease traffic problems caused by frequent railway gate closures on the busy road. Construction was approved in August 2022, but land acquisition delays held up progress. The total cost of the project is estimated at ₹23.45 crore, with the Highways Department and Railways sharing expenses equally. The flyover is expected to be completed by July 2026. Local residents have long faced challenges due to heavy rail traffic, which often leads to road congestion at the level-crossing. "Rail traffic is heavy on the section and traffic snarls are frequent," said Ibrahim Shah, a local resident. He hopes the project will finish quickly, providing a better route to Gandhi Market. The construction requires around 5,612 square meters of private land. Most of the land acquisition has been finalized, with only one property remaining. Some buildings on the acquired land have already been demolished to make way for the flyover.
